Community Spoon
Afghan Refugees
In 2021, Chef Guas expanded his food relief work with the launch of the Community Spoon campaign, focused on supporting Afghan refugees resettling in Northern Virginia.
Working with local partners, Guas and his team provided freshly prepared vegetarian meals and groceries through organizations including Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area.
The initiative helped deliver culturally sensitive, home-cooked meals to refugee families beginning new lives in the United States, offering comfort, dignity, and immediate support during a time of transition.
Community Spoon Initiative
In 2021, Chef Guas created The Community Spoon, a grassroots initiative designed to support Afghan refugees resettling in Virginia through meals and grocery assistance.
The same community-driven model was later activated again during the Ukraine refugee crisis in 2022, reinforcing his ongoing commitment to rapid-response food relief.
