Chefs Feeding Families

When the COVID-19 pandemic threw the entire world topsy-turvy it took only 24 hours after schools shut down for Chef David Guas to do something. Guas immediately set out to help the thousands of families who were suddenly struggling to feed their children here in Arlington, Virginia, his restaurant’s home for the last 10 years. On March 17, 2020 Guas and his team set up an outside kitchen in front of Bayou Bakery, serving a New Orleans staple, Red Beans & Rice. The same nutritious meal that was a go-to dish for displaced families following Hurricane Katrina.

Guas then enlisted Real Food for Kids to partner on this coordinated relief effort - together they formed Chefs Feeding Families to serve free, plant-based meals to Arlington County families, military households, and an expanding network of underserved families. The initiative continues to grow as additional chefs in the surrounding area join this powerful movement. Since launching in March, over 100 thousand meals have been served.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 on school children still remains. Visit Real Food For Kids to learn more about how to get involved. We appreciate any and all you can do!
